1st Graders

Mission Statement: Memorial Lutheran School provides excellence in comprehensive, classical education under the Gospel, preparing students for service in the Church and the world.

Vision: Each student will leave Memorial Lutheran School a better person, equipped academically for service in the world, with faith in Christ that is evident in his or her life.

Memorial Lutheran Church established Memorial Lutheran School in 1980. We have programs for infants through the eighth grade. Our school offers a challenging Christian and Classical curriculum that includes the following:

Daily religious instruction; Weekly chapel
Saxon Math Program in elementary and middle school (Pre-Algebra in 7th grade and Algebra in 8th grade)
Saxon Phonics Program in Early Elementary
Language Arts: Shurley Grammar, Spelling Connections, Novel Reading, Wordly Wise Vocabulary and New Moves Writing
Geography: The Story of the World (The Ancients, Middle Ages, Early Modern Times, Modern Times). Upper grades focus in Texas History and U.S. History
Logic class in middle school
Computer Lab: Pre-K – 8 emphasis on Microsoft Office programs; iPad learning in the classrooms
Science: Harcourt Publishing Hands-on Science Curriculum; Science Lab (middle school), Science Fair grades 2-8
Art, Music, Band, Orchestra and Choir (orchestra begins in 1st grade as an elective for 1st-4th grades; Insrumental
Spanish – Begins in Preschool 3’s
Latin – 3rd – 8th grade
Physical Education for Early Childhood 2′s through the 8th grade (gymnasium and large fenced playground)
Inter-school Athletics 1st – 8th grades soccer, volleyball, and basketball
National Junior Honor Society 7th and 8th grades; PSIA academic competition elementary and middle school, Academic Quest for middle school students at Lutheran High North
After-school activities to include Kid Fit Sports program, Dance, Karate, Club Invention, Chess Club German Club (all at extra costs)
Field Trips throughout the school year to include Outdoor Ed 1st-5th grade and Concordia Field Day 6th-8th grade
Summer Program with activities to include swimming, arts and crafts, Vacation Bible School, computer, science,writing, cooking, sports clinics and field trips. Summer information is available in April each year. You must register separately for this program that runs from beginning of June to mid August. (Pre-school 3 to 6th grade)
Hot lunch cooked on campus in our kitchen, available during the school year at an additional cost
Before and After School Childcare – 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for children enrolled in our school
Normal School Hours 8:15 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. for all classes

Child Care and After School Programs

Childcare begins in our Infant program, where we accept babies as young as 6 weeks old. Mrs, Mary Havers is the Infant Program Coordinator.

Before and After School Childcare is available for students enrolled in our school. Childcare service is offered from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM. It is offered year around, except for certain holidays which are stated in the school calendar. Parents will find a loving, Christian atmosphere here, and will find cooperation between classroom teachers and childcare personnel which enhances the child’s learning experience. Activities include outdoor games, sports, art and crafts and supervised homework time.

Extra Curricular Activities:
Dance (beginning at 3 years old), Kid Fit (beginning in Early Start), Karate (Pre-K and older), Club Invention, Chess Club and German Club (K-8th)
These professionally instructed classes are offered with an additional charge.
