This is part of the spring “Christian Education Night” at MLC, which begins with dinner at 5 PM and ends with a Service of Compline at 7 PM. Christian Education Night Spring 2012
Posted on Apr 17 , 2012 in Announcements & Christian Education Night
Christian Education Night starts this Wednesday at 5:00 PM with dinner (freewill donations accepted). There will be three classes this term starting at 6 PM following the schedule below. The evening concludes with vespers at 7 PM, with an opportunity for private confession and absolution offered afterward by Pr. St-Onge.
April 18 to May 16: “Sharing Your Faith” with Pastor St-Onge
How can we share our faith with our Houston neighbors? What are some of the challenges and pitfalls? What stories would you like to share? Join Pr. St-Onge as we strengthen our own faith by talking about sharing it.
April 18 and April 23: “Philemon” with Pastor Murray
Philemon may be the shortest of Paul’s epistles, but it is a masterpiece of rhetoric. Come learn from Paul how to rightly proclaim Law and Gospel in a difficult situation!
May 2 to May 16: “Bach’s Easter Works” with Cantor Muth
May 2: Cantata No. 4 “Christ lag in todesbanden” – This cantata is based on Martin Luther’s hymn: “Christ Jesus Lay in Death’s Strong Bands” (LSB 458), which in turn is based on “Christians, to the Paschal Victim” (LSB 460). We sing this music every Easter at Memorial, so come and learn a little background on what we are singing!
May 9: Cantata No. 31 “Der Himmel lacht! Die Erde jubilieret” –Unlike BWV 4, which looks back on the Passion through a Lutheran chorale text, BWW 31 is a true festival piece which captures the great rejoicing of Jesus’ resurrection. This rejoicing is transformed into fervent hope of participation in the resurrection of Christ, at last leading to a great chorale singing of death and eternity.
May 16: Cantata No. 249 “Kommt, eilet und laufet, ihr flüchtigen Füße” (The Easter Oratorio) – one of Bach’s most beloved works!

Summer Sunday School
Posted on Mar 29 , 2012 in Announcements & Sunday School
Did you know that Memorial has Sunday School all year long? Even our school takes a break during the summer! Wouldn’t it be wonderful to say “thank you” to your brothers and sisters in Christ who teach your kids during the year by giving them a break during the summer? Rachel Odom, our Sunday School superintendent, has set up an easy to use signup form for our Summer Sunday School program. Are you afraid to teach? Sign up as a helper. Will you be gone all July? Help in June and August. The form gives you the option to indicate exactly how you want to serve, and when. Don’t be shy! Say thanks by helping out.

7th Grade Religion Curriculum 2011
Posted on Aug 11 , 2011 in Junior Confirmation
In 2011 Pr. St-Onge is introducing a new religion curriculum for Memorial Lutheran School’s 7th grade class. The workbook for the curriculum is available here, with the understanding that some items in the workbooks are in draft form and are not to be circulated. If you wish to use this workbook, please contact Pr. St-Onge. The curriculum incorporates both Old and New Testaments and Luther’s Small Catechism, as well as an approach that teaches the Bible’s authority in historical matters such as the creation of the world.
