Memorial sends a short-term mission team to Nicaragua every summer for 10 days. These mission trips are centered on the Synod of Nicaragua's seminary in Chinandaga, Nicaragua. Each trip includes worship in one or more of our sister churches, a medical, construction, and teaching mission component, and visits to some of the picturesque locations in this beautiful central American country. Memorial also sponsors 100 children with school scholarships each year.
The sponsorship provides enrollment in the local public school, the required school uniform, shoes, books, supplies and backpack. More importantly, each child receives two hours of catechism and two hours of supplementary math instruction in the church each day. Your donation provides hope for a child and for that child’s family. The cost of a single student sponsorship is $120 per year.
The Nicaragua general fund is used for all the other mission work that we provide each year. That would include building churches, school buildings, houses, providing medical teams, providing theological information to the Pastors, providing theological teaching to the Pastors, providing Sunday school information to the Deacons and Deaconesses, and providing English lessons to members of the Nicaragua Synod.
Those interested in donating towards our mission work in Nicaragua can make checks payable to Memorial Lutheran Church with the notation "Nicaragua Child Sponsorship" or "Nicaragua General Fund" in the memo field and mailed to Memorial Lutheran Church 5800 Westheimer Rd. Houston, TX 77057. Donors receive contribution statements for tax purposes in January/February of each year.
