They'll Know We Are Christians
There's a much covered hymn written by a priest titled, "They'll Know We Are Christians." You may be familiar with its lyric, "And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love/Yeah they'll know we are Christians by our love." The lack of depth aside, the hymn simply quotes Jesus. Love marks us out as God's people (John 13:35).
But what marks out God? How do you know which "god" is the true God? Luther says whatever you look to for the highest good, that is God. It has been that way since the world began. God is known in His gifts. God speaks; God gives.
Moses reminds Israel of God's great act of unmerited love in delivering them from slavery. That is how they know the Lord to be true God (Deut. 7:9). What is more, God's love for them shows us that Israel was God's "treasured possession" (Deut. 7:6). Today, we too come to know who God is by His unfailing promises to us in the Gospel, and the world will know us by the same.
So, let's add some depth to that hymn, "They'll know we are Christians by His love, by His love/Yeah they'll know we are Christians by His love."

Double Your Giving
One of our generous member families has given another gift of $20,000 for our Telugu ministry and a $20,000 gift towards Pastor Wokoma's mission. The gift is given to be matched and will be released for the use of the ministry on a dollar for dollar basis. If you love the these outreaches and want to double your gift, this is a great opportunity. Every dollar you give becomes two dollars. What's not to like?
If you have suggestions about things that you'd like to see in the Memorial Messenger, please let the office staff know. We would love to hear from you.

College Bound
College Bound, preparation for college from a Christian perspective, will take place on 13 August 2017 during the Sunday School hour at MLC in the youth room. It will be led by Pr. Ian Pacey. The goal  is to help prepare students spiritually and intellectually for the transition from high school to college/university. This meeting is mainly for incoming high school seniors, incoming college students (2yr, 4yr, does not matter), and their parents. Please contact Pr. Pacey or Robert Burmeister for more information.
