From the Pastor
The Real Meaning of God's Law
In this Sunday's Gospel Lesson (Matthew 5:21-37), Jesus seems to ramp up the law, making it fiercer than Moses. He considers sins of mere thought to be tantamount to the act. For Him thinking is doing. However, Jesus is not tougher on sinners than Moses. He is making clear to those who follow Him the real meaning of God's law and their desperate need for Christ's mercy. He takes all our sin, sin of thought included (there are seven devils there!), and takes it upon Himself and pays out ours sins, right to the last penny (Matthew 5:26). Lord, have mercy on us!
Sunday's Scripture Readings & Hymns

Hymns: LSB 645, 766 (stanza 6), 394, 698, 650, 921
blood drive
Give Life, Get Beer!
The last few Mays we held blood drives and MLC members had all-time record donations. We're changing it up and holding our blood drive in February. One of our very own, Marcheta Beasely, recently went through successful surgery for a congenital heart defect; This blood drive is in her honor. Please consider donating blood THIS Sunday 12 February. Attempting to donate earns you a coupon for a free beer tasting at St. Arnold's Brewery. For more information on the beer tasting click here. To sign up for a time slot on the schedule, email or call Tessa 713 782 6079. Contact Tessa today- there are still some great time slots left!
If you have suggestions about things that you'd like to see in the Memorial Messenger, please let the office staff know. We would love to hear from you.
